Man Of Action
I have always been a problem solving person. If somebody tells me there is a problem, I try to find a solution.
I'm discovering the hard way that not all problems can be approached this way. In fact, sometimes it can make it worse. Not all problems can be solved, and those that ca be solved can't always be solved the way I think they can. In fact, sometimes my solution can make it worse.
So what do you do? How do you solve a problem that can't be solved by trying to solve it. I don't know, but I am looking for a solution.
I am, of course, referring to complex computer algorithms in this post.

I first try looking online and in books to see if anyone else has already solved the problem(it's a reasonably fair assumption that anything that I might be trying to do has probably been attempted by someone else) then, when I find that this is not the case I take a fresh look at what the problem is and in particualr, what circumstances placed the problem in my path.
A large number of seemingly hard problems are, in fact, caused by seemingly harmless choices made earlier. In my experience people tend to focus too hard(verb of the day: "rat-hole") on the immediate problem they see when, with a little bit of a wider view, the problem becomes entirely unnecessary if you question the assumptions that got you there.
So, what's the problem?
